Five Tips for Choosing the Right Type of Spiral Tubing for Your Facility

Industrial & Manufacturing Blog

If you are buying spiral tubing to use in an industrial facility, there are several issues you need to consider to ensure you are buying the right type of spiral tubing. These tips will help guide you toward the right tubing for your needs.

1. Look for spiral tubing with openings for easy servicing.

If you service your cords on a regular basis or if you need to frequently change the layout of your cords, you want spiral tubing that makes that easy. To that end, look for tubing with openings that allow leads to come out of the tubing and be routed to other areas. That feature provides you with the flexibility you need.

2. Make sure you select the right material for your environment.

Spiral tubing comes in a range of materials, and ultimately, you need to work with your spiral tubing rep to identify the material that is the best for your situation. For example, if you need tubing that is chemically resistant to acids, solvents and other chemicals, that has a high flame resistance and is easy to clean, you may want to consider PTFE. That is one of the top materials for spiral tubing. However, if you don't need all those features and want to save a bit of money, you may want to choose a material such as EEP, PFA, PEEK or another option.

3. Look for expandable tubing.

If you tend to bundle cords together for organisation, you may want tubing that is expandable. That allows you to put the tubing on a single cord but then pull it larger as needed to accommodate multiple cords or wires. It also helps you avoid using tape for organisation.

4. Consider colour.

Colour may seem like a cosmetic choice, and sometimes it is, but in other cases, it can be critical. For example, if you need the spiral tubing to be highly visible, you may want to select red or yellow. If you want to "label" different types of cords by the spiral tubing you are using, then, split up your cords into categories and assign a unique colour to each category.

5. Understand spiral tubing measurements.

Manufacturers attach a number of different measurements to spiral tubing. To ensure you order the right type of tubing, you should know the circumference as well as the extra space you have around your cord -- that can help you narrow down the tube inner and outer dimensions as well as the wall thickness that you need.

Creating a Safe Environment: Industrial and Manufacturing Facilities

If you work in or run an industrial or manufacturing facility, safety is key. In this blog, we are going to talk a lot about safety. However, we are also going to veer into other aspects of these industries as well. There will be posts directed toward consumers, business owners, workers and many others. Before you start reading, let me introduce myself. My name is Steve. I used to volunteer at an animal refuge where I put together a lot of buildings and frequently visited sheet metal processing facilities, fence manufacturing companies and similar businesses. I was incredibly interested in what they did so I decided to create this blog. Thank you for reading.
