Answering Some Quick Questions About Door Repair and Refurbishment

Industrial & Manufacturing Blog

If you have an entryway door in your home that is giving you problems, you may not need to have it replaced altogether; sometimes just a few minutes of repair are all that's needed to have it open and close freely once again. A door refurbishment can also make your door look like new, which might actually improve your home's overall curb appeal. Note a few quick questions you might have about door repair and refurbishment and then discuss this with a contractor if you still need more information.

Why adjust the door if the deadbolt is sticky?

If the door's deadbolt is suddenly getting stuck or needs a strong arm to close, don't assume you need a locksmith; it could be that your door is no longer hanging properly. If the door sags from the top, this can allow the deadbolt to rub up against the bottom of the slot in which it rests. If your door is leaning forward, the deadbolt also moves forward and may not close or open very easily.

The frame of the door might also have shifted slightly over the years. A doorframe is connected to the home and when the house settles, the frame may come out of proper alignment. In turn, the slot for the deadbolt will not line up with the bolt. Usually just a few adjustments to the door or doorframe can get that deadbolt working easily once again.

Why not just paint the door on your own?

You can try to paint an entryway door to make it look more attractive, but if you don't properly seal a wood door after painting it, the wood can easily warp or allow for mold growth. Steel and PVC usually need special types of paint to help the material avoid rust or damage due to sun exposure. For a quality restoration job on your home's entryway door, it's good to call a professional.

How can you repair a steel or PVC door if it's not closing properly?

If a wood door starts getting stuck, you might just sand down a small part of it to make it fit the frame once again. For a steel or PVC door that can't just be sanded down, making adjustments to the frame can allow the door to open and close freely. If the frame is out of alignment from the home, as mentioned above, it may just need new connectors or bolts to put it back into place. One the frame is hanging straight, the door will also hang straight and will open and close easily.

Creating a Safe Environment: Industrial and Manufacturing Facilities

If you work in or run an industrial or manufacturing facility, safety is key. In this blog, we are going to talk a lot about safety. However, we are also going to veer into other aspects of these industries as well. There will be posts directed toward consumers, business owners, workers and many others. Before you start reading, let me introduce myself. My name is Steve. I used to volunteer at an animal refuge where I put together a lot of buildings and frequently visited sheet metal processing facilities, fence manufacturing companies and similar businesses. I was incredibly interested in what they did so I decided to create this blog. Thank you for reading.
