4 Must-Have Concrete Tools and Equipment for Reconstructing Your Driveway

Industrial & Manufacturing Blog

After you have poured fresh concrete on your driveway, you will need a few tools to do the finishing. Both hand and power tools are equally crucial in this project because of their different finishing touches that they provide. For instance, you will need a different tool to level the new slab and a different tool if you want to decorate your driveway. Here are some of the tools you must have when paving your driveway.

Trowels -- Trowels will come in different dimensions depending on the concrete work you will be doing. If you want to achieve a smooth surface for your driveway, then trowels will do the trick.  It is recommended that you buy a range of trowels, both large and small. Small trowels are ideal for working in tight spots such as beneath pipes and around corners. A large trowel will help you finish the smoothing work of the entire driveway faster. Also, buy trowels that the manufacturer has already pre-grounded the edges. That means that the edges of the blades have been lifted up a little bit, leaving a fine curved blade that cannot scrape a smooth surface.

Vibration Plate -- For a project in a confined space like a driveway, you will also need a vibration plate. This equipment is expensive, and thus, you should think about hiring one because you will not need it on a regular basis. This equipment, akin to your ordinary lawn mower, is ideal for compacting any type of soil or material. When you need to compact and pave your surface in readiness for finishing, then this is your go-to equipment.

Groover -- When pouring concrete, you do not want it to crack after a couple of days during the drying period. A hand groove can be run on your freshly-poured concrete to cut a slot that will control cracking on the concrete. If you are doing a DIY project and you do not fancy squatting for long, you can buy or hire a walking groover that you can attach a long handle on it and push while walking. If you need the extra flexibility of cutting in different directions without changing the orientation of the groover, consider a bi-directional type.

Hand Floats -- After you have leveled the new concrete with a straightedge, you will also need a hand float to consolidate the aggregates in the concrete pour. If the bleed water has not fully evaporated, use a wooden hand float. For a more smooth finish that would probably trap the bleed water, use a magnesium hand float. All these tools ensure that the finishing on your driveway is long-lasting and aesthetically pleasing.

Creating a Safe Environment: Industrial and Manufacturing Facilities

If you work in or run an industrial or manufacturing facility, safety is key. In this blog, we are going to talk a lot about safety. However, we are also going to veer into other aspects of these industries as well. There will be posts directed toward consumers, business owners, workers and many others. Before you start reading, let me introduce myself. My name is Steve. I used to volunteer at an animal refuge where I put together a lot of buildings and frequently visited sheet metal processing facilities, fence manufacturing companies and similar businesses. I was incredibly interested in what they did so I decided to create this blog. Thank you for reading.
